OK - I pulled my old clutch.
Measured the flywheel and 2 spares - 2 were like new the one in my car had been turned down (just the face not the shoulder).
Measured my clutch disk - it was like new - 10% wear.
Had 3 clutch spring plates - measured travel to center point of spring(using a drill press and tape measure) - 2 @ 3/8" 1 @ 1/2 " (but it had 1/8" more travel before spring plate started to move).
Everything looked OK so I put it all back together (using the like new flywheel not the original that appeared to have been turned down).
Clutch to flywheel probably had 1/4" to 3/8" of compression with clutch bolts upon assembly.

Now clutch works OK - as it did before - but the engagement point of the clutch is just this side of the center point of the spring plate. I can drive it but when pulling away from a stop I have to be careful because the clutch wants to engage just as I get it to the center point and the pressure increases very fast. Besides that, it's annoying as hell every time I engage the clutch it's nice and firm (to the 1/2 way point) then gets really easy to push down just as it disengages and my foot goes to the floor.

Any suggestions???

He's talking about the pedal stop that is part of the pedal board. There is an adjustable stop piece (that originally had a rubber bumper in it).

You can adjust it so that you don't over-extend the clutch pressure plate weakening the springs. (In my opinion, it keeps from stretching the cable and putting too much pressure on the clutch tube)

Set it so that you just get past the break over point before the pedal hits the stop.

If it's not grinding the adjustment dosen't sound bad. The hard at first and then

goes to soft on the pedal ...thing, mine is the same. You'll get used to the pedal.

Of course this is my opinion, not gospel.

OK I'm back from the garage. I found the adjustment on the pedal board. Adjusted it and it seems good but it's raining outside right now so I'll have to wait to try it.
BTW no rubber left on it, I'll try and put one in.
