my buddy came over today and finished pulling the trans out of the V8 car for me and we put in another side shifter. No reverse, 4th or 5th. First, second & third shift like they are suppost to.

Any one have the how to on setting up a shifter linkage....I think I screwed it up when I was playing with it when the other trans died.

bruce, can you find all the gears manually with the selector rod at the trans? i sent you a pm.

1.) Loosen front rod pinch bolt at shifter

2.) Rotate rear shift rod in clockwise direction (viewed from rear of car) to full stop in netural position (I use vice grips on shifter rod and tie it off so it remains fully rotated).

3.) Position shifter in neutral position, pushed all the way to the right

4.) Tighten pinch bolt

5.) Check for all gears

6.) Repeat as necessary till you get all gears

Rons got it. It sounds like you have your shifter stuff missalligned.
