Actually I love my GMC and I love my 914's.

Just not at the same time.

I hope that was a photoshopped pic! sad.gif

nope, that is the real deal. Had to move the cars around this morning and couldn't resist the pic.

the scale difference is brutal.

I was out driving the teener the other day and noticed that the toyota camry's trunk in front of me was higher than my roofline! huh.gif
Sometimes you forget how low these cars are, especially if you drive an SUV the rest of the time.

I'll be glad when they change the law and require the SUVs to have the same bumper and headlight height. The original law was applied to 'farm trucks'. But since everyone feels they're safer in an SUV, there are now more purchased then cars. The SUVs aren't safer, they just need to teach people how to drive safer and be more courteous.

I agree 100% with you Rob.
Some of their drivers still don't feel safe enough and add more tubing in front of the bumpers huh.gif
machina
I added a lot of tubing, but it was to the inside of the 914 rolleyes.gif

Tires are almost as big!

Wonder if you could fit a 914 in the back if you took out the seats?
Randal
Opps....that's a little big. Maybe 800 by whatever....

Funny this came up. A couple of days ago I was riding my mountain bike back home from a trail and I got clipped by a soccer-mom in an Excursion. Knocked me over and scared the sh*t out of me (must have just hit the bike itself), but I'm otherwise unharmed.

I still think that putting regular people behind the wheel of trucks that size (without some kind of training) is a mistake... Sure they are safer, but some of the rest of us in tiny little cars with ca. 1970's safety equipment are at a pretty huge disadvantage, no matter where the bumper sits.

The worst part is that I was wearing Lobster gloves that are basically mittens with only two holes for fingers, so I didn't even get to give her a proper finger.gif

Looking at that picture, I would be tyou cant even see the teener from the drivers seat! Thats scary

Ugh. I don't know how many times I've been stuck in traffic with a @#$%&^* SUV tailpipe right in my window ... and that's only one of the reasons I hate the damned things.

I have a 2000 chevy ZR2 blazer myself but when I bought it I was doing irrigation work and also needed something to haul my dirtbike and dune buggy off road with. I dont like most SUV drivers myself. People that buy them and dont ever even take them off pavement. I've had mine stuck up to the frame. I would hate to get hit by one in my 914. I do have a full cage with doorbars but that will only help so much. I would really hate to get hit by my 83 K10 with 36 in tires under it. The bumper would probably go right over the rear trunk.

Now if we could just prevent them from being ballistic missles while ON the slopes, we'd be on to something. idea.gif

I had a safety supervisor tell me once that he didn't like the safety aspect of the SUV. He asked me to imagine two drivers - one in a tank that could never be hurt and another in a rusted out hyundai with no seat belts, a big metal spike in the center of the steering wheel and the trunk loaded with nitroglycerine. When driving down the road who do you think is paying closer attention to what is going on around him? laugh.gif

"The bumper would probably go right over the rear trunk."

The other day when I was walking to safeway I saw a honda not come to a stop fast enough for a red light. A truck similar to yours was stopped in front of her (the girl in the honda). By the time she stopped her hood was about 3" under the trucks rear bumper -- no collision...

A pick-up backed up over the front trunk of a friend's 914. Hood was seriously bent but otherwise the damage wasn't too bad. The pickup driver just hadn't seen him. The insurance declared it total loss and my friend still got $3300 back for the 914 ... $700 more than what he had paid for it. He pitched in some more money and bought a 911SC ... traitor!!! His wife still thinks he drives a wreck though laugh.gif

A friends brother backed over his wifes honda in a truck a little bigger than mine. She had parked right behind him and he was late for work. He ended up with the axle in the front of the roof/windshield.

I equate newbie SUV drivers with snowboarders. They just don't get it......SUVs blocking intersections and the light changes....snowboarders stopping in the middle of the slope to smoke a bowl.

Both get pissed at ME when I object to their rude behavior.

Just to be clear....it's illegal to enter an intersection w/o being able to clear the intersection. As to slopes it's proper to pull to the side of the hill to do bong hits.... fighting19.gif

miles,
No kit, just a regular '73 w/ crome bumpers. It's a little lower, has the rear vlance removed (I have a triad and have yet to get a fiberglass one and cut out the exhaust holes).

Zois,
Hey now, I snowboard and never stop in the middle to smoke a bowl mueba.gif But i agree that SUV's think everyone should get out of the way of their "safer" vehicle...since when is a heavy truck w/ a topper and w/ slow accel and bad brakes safer...while bring driven by a 5'0" soccer mom that can't see over the steering wheel? Happy driving

ROTFLMAO

I actually equate most SUV drivers with snowboarders. At the end of the day it's what people want to drive though. I just wish that (to generalize - which I shouldn't) they were more aware of the weight they are throwing around.

It's much easier to damage a snowboarder than an SUV though..... a good swift spray turn will quickly extinguish their bong, and then they can (make a feeble attempt) chase you down the mountain.

I have to get to to tahoe soon.....
