Full Version: seat belt nut?

I am still working on my hell hole repair. In fact I am still cutting metal out as I discover how far forward the rust has crept. I have had to remove the passenger seatbelt attachment nut and was curious if anyone makes a replacement or do I just need to fabricate one. If it is the latter does anyone know what size it is? Mine was hopelessly attached to the bolt. Unfortunately I am not at home to check the driver's side bolt.

I tried to find what size replacement belt bolds are but nobody seems to publish that. I assume that's because it is a standard?

the only thing iknow is that it is not metric,, or the SAE is identical, I had to fabricate mine ,,

11 x 1.25 is the correct thread pitch for that nut.

i guess it is possible that they are just very similar. I found one reference to seatbelt bolts on http://wescoperformance.stores.yahoo.net who appears to deal with racing gear. They have a hardware mounting kit for sale that includes 7/16" fine thread(20tpi) bolts.

11 x 1.25 converts to 6.929/16 - 20.32 - Almost the same...

Interestingly my initial search of Mcmaster didn't turn up any 11mm nuts

Do you sell it separately!? I don't think I need the whole part just the nut. I suspect the whole part is pretty pricey

I'm pretty sure that some stupid DOT requires seat belt anchor bolts to be 7/16NSF aka 7/16 - 20, even if every other fastener on the car is metric.

The M11x1.25 tap threads in like it was made for it, while a 7/16-20 tap will attempt to cut new threads.

I know 7/16-20 seat belt bolts will fit as that is what most competition harnesses are supplied with.

I firmly believe that they were originally metric threads in our cars, but this debate has been held before. I even posted a picture of my M11x1.25 tap.....

Safety harnesses are on my To Buy list right now, and I was wondering if everyone racing was just screwing the 7/16 into the metric hole. Sounds like it is no big deal and there is enough thread engagement to pass tech inspection and be safe in an accident....if it worked for the last 30 years I am OK with it beerchug.gif

This is a little late, but yesterday I bought some grade 8.8 7/16 nuts to make new seat belt plates with, and the old bolts go in perfectly (the ones that were on the car). They feel exactly the same as 7/16 bolts threaded into the 7/16 nuts blink.gif smile.gif
