Full Version: Cutting fender wells for radiator and crash safety?

When doing a V8 or any water cooled conversion, how unsafe is it to cut the fender wells for radiator venting? It seems like cutting that area would significantly weaken the car in the event you take some kind of front end collision.

I realize the 914 is kind of inherently unsafe by todays standards, but I just wonder how big of a compromise all those radiator holes could be.

Little to no impact on the structure. The struts mount behind where the loles would be. the only thing hanging in front of the axle is the torsion bar front mount
