I thought I would share these photos because these came out so well. These are my engine tin for my 2056 engine build. These are actually 1.8 engine tin that I converted to the 2.0 plug pattern. The letters are painted on, matching the body color of my car. They have a durable clear coat over them for protection.

By the way, if anyone is interested in a writeup for converting the tin from 1.8 to 2.0 , let me know. I took plenty of pictures.

Given the scarcity of 2 liter tin I would say that write up would be very good reading... As for your tin, it is so sexy!!!

DAMN Those are nice!
BTW- the scarcity of 2 liter tins is coming to an end... Our fiberglass tin molds are finished and only need a final buffing before we are ready to sell them... They are 100% replicas of 2.0 tins, with just a couple of additional cooling benefits :-)

That's cool, I was thinking along those lines, of fabricating replicas - but I will yield to Jake. In the meantime, if anyone wants a set like these, I am going to fabricate another set, and of course, apply a bad-ass paint job to them. (Why have a boring engine compartment?!)

How did you get the "VW Porsche" graphics on the tin?

We might be able to inlay those VW/ Porsche fnts into the mold for our fiberglass pieces... That would be cool, huh?

Yeah, or you can pay me to paint them on for you!
I imagine fiberglasses letters wouldn't be as crisp as painted on letters. I have some pics later with a slightly raised VW-Porsche logo. It is more subtle, but it looks trick.

Good idea. I'll be repainting the tin this winter. I'll PM you later.

I have a spare set of 2.0L tin that I want to close up all the extra holes. That painted lettering is SO BAD ASS. It will surely scare the competition. You know the guy in the ZO6 Vette.

When refinishing engine tin, will regular automotive finish paint hold up on the under"hood" enviroment. Also what if one wanted to really smooth things out, i.e. smoothing seams etc...? I would think normal filler would not like the heat, so maybe lead filling would be necessary? At a minimum aluminized filler seems like pretty tough stuff.
