so

- i checked the wheel bearings, they're OK
- i checked the calipers for sticky pistons, they're OK
- i checked for tire rubbing, they're NOT

i'm at a loss. when i drive, even slowly, no noise at all.
but as soon as i have the wheels in full lock to the right, i hear a noise from the drivers side front that very much sounds like a sticky brake piston making the pads rub on the rotor.
only on full lock (like getting in/out of a parking space)

as soon as i straighten out the wheels just a bit, it goes away.

why would a brake pad hit the rotor only on full lock ???

Maybe you've got a wheel rubbing on the strut?

The sound you are hearing couldn't be a brake pad... Similar yes (metal on metal grinding?).

Check for abrasive wear on your swaybar parts, the strut... Can't recall if you've got front coil-overs or not...

I just found a loose nut, the one that holds the shock into the strut. Definately made strange noises while turning...
