I'm about to set my flywheel endplay. Do I measure the clearance with oil between the shims.... or dry? I am sure the oil will add thickness. And the number I was told to look for was between .004. and .005

Thanks,
Mike

I did mine dry. still working ok biggrin.gif

Dry is fine but if you decide to usw oil for assembly you should be using 10W 30 anyway. which is thin enough to not make a difference by much.
like go with the tighter value with oil.

When i did mine it was dry and CLEAN. set .004 and ordered exactly the shims I needed.

Another question.......

I noticed that the dial gauge moves + and - .002 when the flywheel is pulled or pushed hard. How much pressure do you apply when taking your measurements??

Thanks guys,
Mike

Mount the mag base to the flywheel bolts or near the center. The flywheel will flex a bit.

Best way is to get the crank pulled up snug to the flywheel side. zero the dial, and measure the difference as you move the crankto the front of the engine.
