Who is the best at rebuilding a MFI pump for a race engine?

Is there any chance that a stock pump will work with a hot 2.5 L six engine?

Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection is one of the more famous ones it seems like. I talked to him a couple times and he seemed nice. I never got my pump rebuilt though, because I sold the car first.

People say the pump is matched to the engine profile including cam, displacement, CR, flow characteristics, etc. I think MFI is one of the least forgiving of changes to the engine. With that said though I am not sure how much knowledge is actually out there of what can be made to work. I think most people just give up and send the pump out to be rebuilt to a certain spec ($$$$$) or convert to carbs.

depends on what kinda car that stock pump came from... 2,0 E ? probably not. 2,4S? much more likely... 2,7RS - lean it down a little and you should be golden...

i've heard the 2,7RS space cams are still available, not sure if that's still true, but if anyone has them - or knows - it'd be Gus - he's the 'go to' guy ...

What is the biggest motor you can pump with an MFI setup?

not sure anyone knows. IIRC, the Mercedes 6,3 and 6,9 engines were Bosch MFI -- that's pretty big. the 3,0 liter Carrera RSR's were slide-valve MFI, and versions of the 935 (up around 3,5 liters and turbocharged to around 2 Bar) were and they were pumping about 850 BHP in sprint race trim. aircraft engines run basically the same setup at around 540 cid - although at significantly lower compression ratios ...

nowadays you have to have a pretty darned good reason to want to run MFI -- Haltec and Motec (and other...) programmable EFI are so much better ... the "pumpeduse" TDI (turbo Diesel) engines have pumps running about 30 (!) Bar injection pressures, and they're all electronically controlled nowadays ...

Thanks for that answer Rich, I have been asking around for a long time on that.. I am in love with the sound of it on a flat6. I have never seen... say a 3.2/6 with it.. was wondering if that was even possible.

I'd like a 4.0/6 with MFI smile.gif
