...rear fog lights. wink.gif

Some very nice gentleman from Michigan sent me some rear fog light spares (Thanks Tom! smilie_pokal.gif ). Those who have been following along know the outside bracket is NLA. The inside bracket is available via your local Porsche dealer.

I'm having the outside bracket made and it should be back from the metal shop Monday or Tuesday. I dropped off the inside bracket (to get the mounting holes perfect), the actual light assembly (to better gauge the angle for the bracket) and some detailed drawings (Thanks Tom once again!).

Now... seeing as how the lights are hard to come by, this may be an odd question; does anybody want another one of these?
Pat Garvey
No that I want one, because it isn't original to my 914, I am curious as to how it's wired into the harness. I assume it operates through the foglight switch, rather than an additional switch. But, how is the wiring routed through the car & connectedto the swich?

I dislocated my right thumb yesterday, so I'm very slow & clumsy on the keyboard (painful too) & am having to learn how to use a righthanded mouse with my lef hand.

Tom,

Back's good! No prblems.

Thumb's bad! Did a dumb thing (porsche related, as always) - payng for it. Pardon the typo's - tough to type with 7 fingers!.

Bad thing - my calipers were supposed to come off today. My GP patched me up, but I go to the Ortho tomorrow. Looks like I won't be wrenching for at least a month.

Back = runs in my family; OK for now. Thumb = stoopid! Not that I'm wishing for it, but I'd sometime like to have an injury (if I HAVE to have one) that wasn't Porsche related! These damned cars are startng to cause physical, instead of finacial grief. Again, sorry for typos.
Pat

Thanks for caring!

Okey Dokey, I've been silent for too long about this topic! Now I'm going to do a little stirring, since my name was used on the topic!

Let's take a look at those who have these rear fogs.

I know of the following:

Eric - who has more power than is sensible, and a 914 he can do whatever he wants to.

Tom - who is an outlaw (& started this whole thing), yet has a very slick 914 ( no offense Eric). Tom is also ALWAYS looking to stir the pot - that is a compliment.

But.....who out there has a rear fog that is period correct & documented? For a stock 914.

James?
You've been laying low lately - what about your Swiss six?

So, what if I got one of these, went to the 2008 Parade with my COA that says "Norwegian" equipment & said "I'm original"? I'm screwed!

Not a chance... unless the Judgee-Poohs are reading here. The fact that you have the "Norwegian" equipment would seal it in my book. You could say; "Yup, came that way as part of the Norwegian equipment package" and not a single lash would be batted...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

But! Since you posted here in a public forum... you're screwed. James would turn you in like OJ on the lamb. biggrin.gif

Eric,

If you have an extra outside bracket you would like to part with I would be interested. I have a light but no bracket for my daily driver (NOT concours). Gets foggy here in the valley!

The alternative is to test my metal working skills (very scary)

As I've stated before, I'm not convinced that the rear fog on my Swiss six is a factoty installed item. MY COA does not indicate it as an option (though it does say Switzerland Equipment). I suspect it was a dealer installed item. It is period correct.

BTW Pat, health has been on the decline. I've made no attempt to begin preparing for next years Parade, let alone consider going... Finally made my splash in this month's Pano. I suspect you missed it.

As for me, I would like to dress up my toy just a little. Actually, another friend in East Aurora NY did the same.

I'm sure that fog lights, both front and rear, are part of the Norwegian equipment list, along with dual tone horns, headlight washers, intermittent wipers, and rear window defrost.

Eric, that bracket looks good. But if the original is stainless, would the part then look better in silver zinc?

Hey Bill, not the original engine in your 74? Should it have been a 1.8? I'm not sure how many brackets Eric made up. He may have a spare. I can wait for mine if you want to get one quickly.

Hi Guys,

The outside stainless steel bracket was from Wolfgand (Gust'l) & was from Europe (German issue) so that's probably the reason for stainless. I am sure U.S. brackets are steel with yellow di-chromate, same as the inside bracket.
Note: For some of the other's I still have a couple interior (yellow) factory brackets @ $10.00 including shipping U.S. When I purchased mine, I got a few extra's.

Tom
BTW: James, so sorry to hear about your health issues. Keep us all informed so we can keep you in our thoughts & prayer's.

I'm with Tom on the color. I personally don't believe the stainless bracket is original. I've yet to see the factory make a stainless bracket for anything. I decided it should match the inside bracket. That being said, it's still here. I can have yours plated clear or yellow.

I could always have another made. $30 clams.

Nope, didn't miss it. You're such a regular celebrity these days that I didn't want to expand your head any further.

Sorry to hear that your health is declining - I'm counting on meeting you & Jody at the next Parade. Kepp me posted, please.

Point here is, aside from the "Norwegian Equipment" crap, my 914 didn't come with a rear fog as original. However, if it will perk James up, AND he won't rat on me, AND he comes to the next Parade.....nah, sorry, can't do it. Until this COA thing is resolved (and I KNOW what I bought in '72), no accessories will be added.

Eric,

I am definitely interested in the bracket. $30 sounds OK. Let me know when it is ready, and where/how to send payment, hopefully before the fog really sets in around here.

Davep,

Not certain if the engine in my car is a 1.7, but it has an EA case, and someone went to the trouble to put a 1.7 emblem on the back. I also got a box with most of the L-jet fuel injection when I bought the car.
davep
Bill, sounds like you no longer have the original engine. That is common enough. Please update the cars profile when you can. All data helps me.

I do indeed have 914 006 504 10! Why!? I'm beginning to think I have some sort of bastard-child 914! Why wouldn't I have 914 006 505 10?

I want those damned chains, but in the right size. Just kidding! If I had them, I'd hook thm up to the rear tow hook & make sparks on the freeway. My 914 hasn't seen snow since 1973!

If it's on my COA, it's righteous(sp).

If it isn't, it's aftermarket.

And, yes, I have a couple of aftermarket items, though they don't require drillinmg!
