Well, I am getting my 914 today. I also have a Karmann Ghia but I am not too sure if the speedometer cable on the 914 is the same as the Ghia, or almost the same. The speedo does not work. Anyone know how to fit it? Is it the same or almost the same as the Ghia? Thanks.
SLITS
1.) Cable

2.) Broken flange on drive (Right angle drive at tranny)

3.) Speedo took a serious crap.

Ghias drive the speedo off the front wheel like a bug (I could be wrong)

914s drive the speedo off the tail of the mainshaft (tranny)

Is the odometer working?
If it is gone too then try this. disconnect the cable from the angle drive and use a drill to drive it. Drill has to be in reverse. If the speedo works then replace the angle drive. If the speedo doesn't work then you have pull it out and run the drill directly on the unit. If that works the you know it is the cable.
