After reading Redshifts post about his cables, I thought a list of tools needed and recommended while owning and maintaining a 914 would be a good idea....
Maybe once the thread is dead, we can add the list to a FAQ (which most lazy @ss people don't read or look for, LOL)
jack (aluminum optional)
jack stands (one pair minimum, or if you are like me, you need at least 3 pair......4 jacks for your 914 and the other 2 for your "running" cars)
Metric tool set (sockets, wrench set)
3# sledge hammer BFH optional (IMHO, a claw or woodworker type hammer should never be used near a car)
small inspection mirror
small bright flashlight
triple square drive set(for CV joints)
Metric allen wrench set(shifter assembly, front suspension skid protectors.....)
torque wrench(1/4" drive In-Lb, 3/8" and 1/2" Ft-Lb)

Also, keep a philips head srew driver in the glovebox to adjust and refasten the sunvisor hardware after they work loose and the visor falls off.

All of the above plus...
patience! When it won't work, sit back, stare at it, consult with fiends, have a beverage,
then go at it again!
Repeat as needed...THEN get the BFH/sawzall/dremel/torch and beat/cut/grind/melt it to death (after locating replacement parts)
