Go to aircooled.net and see what they have to say about why the Mallory unit is preferable. I got the 6AL (with rev-limiter). While there, check out the Mallory Unilite distributor too (nice!).

I can give you a CDI box .... no name type, but it will work ....

You might also want to look up the Crane Hy-Fire .... rev limiter, multispark, yada, yada, yada .......

With your Turkish money you should probably go direct ignition .... Talk to Joe O'Brien (Series9 ).

I didn't see a dizzy for a six...

Ron,

Tried the Crane unit. Remember where you got yours? biggrin.gif

I'm not talking about the XR700 optical trigger, but they work great for me. I read the instuctions and have no problem setting them up.

I'm talking about the Crane unit that is equal to the MSD6AL .... got the unit name wrong .... I have the complete setup and can take a picture of it later. I might even think about selling it to you for an ungodly price since you're bagging on me.

You answered your own question!

MSD= failure in most all my past experiences.
Chris Pincetich
Summit Racing just came out with a Mallory knock-off that does all the same stuff and costs $159....multi-spark, rev limiter, same electrical properties, yada, yada.
Buy that one, save some $$$, and let us know how it works biggrin.gif
I am going to get that one or the Mallory this winter I think beerchug.gif
Jake Raby
My experience with knock offs is that they make great paper weights.

I can get an original Mallory for 20 bucks more so I think I'll stay genuine... biggrin.gif

Slits -
If that unit will work on my chevy, and has the rev limiter, I want to know how much?
What is the difference between the Crane Gold and the Crane blue unit?

In over 20 years use I have never had a problem with an MSD.
Brando
The mallory series of MSD units have a digital processor inside - very precise and durable.

Knock-off MSD units are analog and have their own issues.

My mom's SC will get my Hyfire 6 when I upgrade to the 6AL. Then it'll be gruntin' gooder

I have never had an MSD CDI or dizzy remain reliable for more than a year- but I drive my cars every day, everywhere I go.

The Mallory dizzy in my 912E has over 100K on the cap and rotor and the timing hasn't been altered since the day I installed it 5 years ago!

And I still get over 35 MPG average.
Aaron Cox
MSD brand CDI 6a and 6al boxes use analog internals.
msd 6al uses rpm pills to set the rev limiter or you can buy an external rotary selection switch.

Mallory 6a and 6al units use a digital processor.
rotary selection switch built it on 6al models.

to each his own. I love my mallory setup. cheaper too!
Allan
Well it looks like my MSD box is either toast or has an intermittent problem so it's going away.

Anybody know who might carry Mallory units on the shelf in the L.A. area?
Aaron Cox
J and M speedshop in riverside......

Allan
Looked at j and m spped shop but didn't see Mallory listed on their web site.

Anybody know if the Mallory unit will require a tach adapter or is it just like the MSD (didn't need one for it)?
Allan
Nevermind, found one... biggrin.gif
Brando
You may need their tach adapter.

Basically you splice one end in-line with the ignition and MSD key-on input, other in-line with the tach/points.
Aaron Cox
you DONT need an adapter!!!

splice the tach wire into the trigger wire from the dizzy (in your case.. off the pertronix)
