I had my 914 in storage for almost three years and just completed the brakes before getting it on the road. When I put the car up it had no clutch chatter but now it does, is this caused by rust on the clutch plate or possibly oil? I spoke with George at AA and he said to ride the clutch a little and it should clear. Has anyone else had that problem and what did you do besides riding the clutch to cure it. Thanks

Make sure the engine and tranny mounts are intact. Drive it. The Cap'n

Ok, then drop the tranny. Remove the clutch assembly and flywheel .... send the pressure plate and flywheel to a machine shop .... purchase a new friction plate and reassemble everything.

What about a really old clutch plate with the rubber inside instead of springs? After sitting for awhile, some chunks of rubber could be in the way and cause chatter. My 22K mile car had the original clutch redone this summer when the transmission was resealed but I made sure the concours weenies couldn't see the "upgrade." lol
