Is it OK to attach the welder ground anywhere on the car. I'm welding in a new front trunk floor today. The engine and battery are out of the car. I thought I saw a posting stating that the current could be transferred to the wiring harness.

Accepted practice is to place the ground as close to the work as is practical. If that's the rear bumper, so be it. There are ground points a bit closer, I suspect. Run a clean bolt into a convenient threaded hole in the body, run a nut down against the (clean) sheetmetal, and connect your ground there. The Cap'n
