I am getting my 914 ready for winter storage. I have a Optima Red Top Battery.

I have a Sears battery maintainer/ charger will that work on a Optima Battery.

The directions mention every other kind of battery,is there any special things to

do ,or special maintainer I should use. I remember reading some thing about

them requiring some sort of special care. But I forgot what !!!!!!!! I seem to do

that a lot lately. What is your opinion ???????? Dave slap.gif

I bought a battery charger/tender/minder with my car storage capsule. Came at a discount. The seller says it's the best but it does have a true "float" feature. My battery is on it as I type...ask me in the spring!

Charger

12 Volts, 3 Amp Constant Current
(Equivalent to 6 Amp tapered charger in charging time)

Input 115 VAC (range 90 VAC to 132 VAC)

Suitable for U.S., Canada, other 115VAC countries & Japan (100VAC).

Automatic Cut-off and then true Float.

Can be left connected indefinitely without harming the battery

Increases battery life by de-sulfating the battery

UL and cUL (CSA) Listed

Meets FCC Class B. High level of electro-magnetic interference filtering
Suitable for off-board application.
Size, only 4 ½” x 2 ¼” x 1 ¼”, and very lightweight, only 11 ounces

a "float charge" is putting just enough current into the battery to keep it "topped off" in the battery's fully charged charged state. you wouldn't want to hit it with 5 amps at 13.5 all the time. as the charge state of a battery gets to it's fully charged limit the resistance to more charge = higher voltage for same amps in. this can damage a battery if not monitored. if the battery has a fault or is left on a charger that doesn't have a automatic charge setting it could over heat gas and explode.

so short answer: float charge = storage charge.

Hey biz,

You aren't charging the battery while the car is in the capsule, are you?

Nah. Battery is out of the car. I worry about the stupid clock wearing out and I worry about some type of incendiary event with a toasty blown up Optima. Heck, I worry about wayward spiders getting shredded in the fan and splattering on my bumper!
