I have a '69 912 coming in that probably needs a cylinder head rebuild.
Would anyone like to recommend a specialist machine shop?

Possibly more than the type IV heads since I'd guess the valves and seats are a little more. The only way to know is to send them in for a quote. If they have to be done, then I don't think you will get the same quality work any cheaper elsewhere.

Len, Charles and I have been working on the 356/912 head update program for several years now... By mid 2008 we'll have a CNC "LE" series head program fully developed for these heads, similar to the TIV..
Call him and talk about possibilities, of course the price isn't the cheapest you'll find, but I'll guarantee you that no one offers the value of Len's work.
He does ALL my heads for a very good reason.

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I would send them to Walt Watson at Competition Engineering in Lake Isabella, CA. He's the PREMIER 356/912 machinist (and engine expert) in the country. My second choice is Engine Machine Service in Westchester, CA (LAX). They don't have the backlog CE has. Both have decades of experience. The Cap'n
