Here's a pic of my 18x8.5 ATP 2 piece wheels on the front. I am currently waiting for my new five lug trailing arms from Eric Shea. When they get here, I'll be running 18x10's in the rear. I bought the wheels second hand, and the centers were already blue. They'll be going to black very soon.

what makes you want to run such big wheels, bling effect? Otherwise, if you are interested in performance, consider the weight of the wheel, and wheel/tire combo. I dunno how much those wheels weigh you are looking at, but 18s can be pretty heavy.

I run 16s just to get the smaller tire diam I want in the really large width, otherwise I would run 15s. Just need enough to clear the brakes IMO. My wheel and tire combo is about 37lbs at 16x10 and 16x11 for instance. The wheels had thick-walled barrels so they were about 18lbs. I was hoping for 16lbs when I ordered them...

Most of the 17" wheels in the 8-10 width is around 17-18lbs, 18" get around 19-20lbs and 20" wheels would not fit the 914 right.

username wberthgo (Bill) has 18" late-model wheels on his and it looks nice, but that is as big as you would want to go IMO. Do a search and I am sure you will find pix of his car.

Wheels NLA, If you want Fuchs look wheels check out the new Rota Fox 17" wheels on the 911 bird board.

For more pics of my car I have a build thread around here somewhere. Car is still under construction.

Why would you need 10" & 11" wide wheels unless you have 295/40R16 and 305/40R16 tires and huge HP + TORQUE to turn them....? confused24.gif

Fuchs style rims in 17" diameter and reasonable widths are available through subydude.... idea.gif

You must not be familiar with my car smile.gif 525 HP/438 ft-lbs torque. I run 23.5x10.5x16 front slicks and 25.5x12x16 rear slicks. Here you can see the 3.5" mufflers on sprint car headers and catch glimpse of the air cleaner from my track day about a month ago. My avatar may have been a hint wink.gif

I went up to 16s from 15s as the smallest diam tire I could get in the front would have been what the backs are. I wanted the smaller diam tire to keep the car low. I can run a 23.5" diam rear as well, but use the larger tire so I can just run the track in one gear (2nd) and go to 3rd on the front stretch. For reference, with this tire diam on the rear I shift to 2nd at ~60mph, 3rd ~105mph, and 4th when I can at ~141mph. I like the setup as zero to 60 is one gear and when the slicks are good and hot, I can do that sub 4 seconds.

The Kinesis are nice, but if you like that pattern and aren't set on the brand name, CCW makes a similar wheel for about $1000 less (around $2200/set roughly v. $3200/set roughly - price depends on actual size obviously, but for 17" in a reasonable width.

Mark,

You have a super nice & clean looking car there. Those Boxster wheels look right at home on your car. I like the monochromatic paint scheme as well! What powers that car?

Bill

PS I'll post pics of my 996TT wheels when I get them back from powder coating. They are 18X8 & 18X11 running 245/40/ZR18 & 295/30/ZR18 Pilot Sports.

I personally wanted an 18''with a fat assed look.

Just my preference.

Okay, you can use wide - ass wheels then....holy smokes man, what a brute!
I'll bet that's a blast to tame!

65mm offsets on those rear 996 wheels will require some serious spacers. Just a heads up.

Check and double check your measurements.

My rears are 11X18" with 45mm offsets. 3" spacers work perfectly under sheridan flares.

Hey Dr. Roger,

You and I think alot alike! I have 3" spacers and 11"X18" 996TT wheels as well. My left rear bearing could only take 20K of this abuse and I'm now transplanting new rear bearings...whatever....a small price to pay to own a 530HP monster car! I like the look of the modern wheels but you have to run gigantic spacers to do so.

Thanks, I could care less about the name, but I had never even heard of CCW. I googled them and it is the same wheel basically. Forged and everything. thumb3d.gif

FYI a lot of guys on the bird board use them for racing applications and IIRC John at CCW had a big corvette crowd early on using his stuff, so they are proven wheels and for the money a good deal. I have Kodiak wheels cuz I liked that particular pattern and weights were identical. You might consider Kodiak as they too have a similar pattern to CCW/Kinesis/BBS.
