AFAIK some of you already had a Sportomatic, no matter if a 914-6 or a 911

general question: is it possible to shift the gears without runnung engine?
from my knowledge, the clutch is vac-operated which would need a running system?

could anybody explain it in simple words, please ... rolleyes.gif

Yes...Sportomatic uses a manual gearbox. Shifting thru the gears with the engine off would be like doing the same on a car with manual transmission without pushing in the clutch.

You can shift through the gears as you can with a conventional manual gearbox. Most Sportomatics cannot be started unless the shifter is in either the Park or Neutral position- there is an ignition system lock-out if a gear is selected and the key is turned in the ignition switch.Chris
