did you turn on the lights? mine hasn't worked for 10 years and i've since taken it out, but I seem to recall that the light comes one with the head lights. not with the switch. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hold one one second, what defroster light? What fuse? Instrument lights?
I know that I have one fuse that is prone to popping (when the headlights come on, take it out, and the headlights still work) What wire are we talking about here? What light, where?

I broke the bulb with a screwdriver, and taped the wire up, no porpoise.

yepp, comes on with the lights, not the heater blower ...
and yes, they like to shorten out and take out the entire dash lights with them. ground and + are only about 1mm apart.

my thought is it's sole purpose is to direct you to the heat handle while driving at night. "now where is that heater handle?". if the wire is chaffed away from the light housing the same shorting will occur. my wife wanted to know why the dash lights no longer worked after i did a shifter adjustment.
