I got my engine back from Jake this week and it looks GREAT. If it runs as good as it looks, I'll be happy. The down side is that I have busted my a** for the last week getting the engine bay in shape before I install the engine. We had to replace an engine shelf and repair a few rust areas in the bay. While we were repairing the engine bay, why not fix the rusted areas on the longitudes. Oh yeh, let's go ahead and install that stiffining kit while we're at it. We really should just go ahead fix that rusted area around the door receiver area, ect....... I just did the grunt work while the pros did their work, welding. I'm so sore, I can hardly sit. I don't have any before pictures (sorry) but here are some pictures of the almost finished project. Really just need to do a little more grinding and cleaning, then paint. I hope that the stiffening kit was worth it.

BTW-It's nice to have a couple of spare alternator belts, but I think you need therapy!

Dave, I have a Tangerine Racing Header from Chris Foley and I will be installing an external oil cooler. BTW, I read about your project daily with much interest. I feel your pain.

rick... those look like cb performance manifolds/linkage/intakes. can you tell me if there are velocity stacks inside? i have those same intakes- they were to thick to run stacks on.... (my idea is to drill and tap offset holes for the stacks)

oh...and that's not 2.0 sheetmetal is it? were they 1.7/1.8 heads? im a little lost, my 2.0 sheet metal looks differebt

Dave, after alot of research I choose Jake to build my engine because I believe he is the best. I will also tell you that he is a GREAT guy to work with. He is coming out with alot of new stuff this year so keep so keep your eye open.

Aron, I don't think it matters too much if you start with a 1.7, 1.8, or 2.0. Jake replaces or reconfigures just about everything when building a 2270.

Heads should be 1.8 or 1.7 probably with oversized valves.

On 2.0 heads, plugs are not on the top, but on the side, near intake port.

Ballpark price on the motor? Outright purchase or did you supply a core motor?

before he answers the price on the engine- what one customer spends has zero bearing on another customers engine as a golden rule with me. Thats why there are no prices on the site. I make estimates based on what the customer needs. The same size engine can cost 5K more for some applications than others.

As of 2004 all my prices changed as we now include ceramic lifters in all engines and they also receive full cryo enhancement and a Mallory unilite to boot.... They also receive that beautiful powdercoat as a standard. My engines are superior to the "Normal 2270" in every meaning of the word. Our lowest grade engines exceeds their fully optioned engine!

As for the heads- I use brand new castings on all my engines unless someone has 2.0 cores, then they are rebuilt and modified heavily to unlock our power and to do so with a stock idle and temps comparable with stock. sometimes cooler than stock.

Rick was a great customer to work with, I'm glad to receive his positive feedback, can't wait till he gives you a driving report. I know what he will say.

Bare minimum of 6500.00 goes from there to 10K with most ending up around 75--8500.

Thats complete and ready to roll, all you need is a header. It even comes with a Mallory and a set of New webers. Plug in- and then play!

Jake, have you done any with aftermarket programmable Fuel Injection? Are you planning on it if not?

Yes I have used aftermarket EFI...

It sucks up time like a straw in water!!!

I currently do not offer it because to set it up and tune it it takes me as much time as it does to complete and dyno another entire engine.

I do sometimes set the engines up for it internally, and then dictate to the customer what parts they will need, THEN they finish the job themselves, I dyno it with carbs to test the internals and set timing curves.

Its easy to lose money on an EFI system if something goes wrong and you have to chase issues..... I learned that lesson long ago!

When you get it in the car Rick, let me know if you have any questions regarding the header and heat exchanger installation. It's real simple, but might not be self-explanatory - especially the HE.
