I just finished installing S and Y gears in 4th and 5th and decided to flip 5th to 3rd after reaading the autox thread. Put the whole shebang back into the intermediate plate and adjusted the shift forks and .......WTF? Huge play at synchro hub and shift ring. It's like there's one dog tooth missing at each of the three locking grooves. I don't remeber this slop when I took it apart last week. Oh well, I guess I'll buy a new ring. Big $$. I'm done for today. I'd have a beer or three, but I quit that.

I LIED!! I went out and pulled the tranny that was in the car that was bad. (I hate the CV part of that job).Pulled the gear stack out and might have found a slider that is good. The 2nd-3rd and 4th-5th sliders are the same, so I have four to chose from. There might be two good ones in the lot. The rest of the tranny that was in the car is not too pretty.

How's that for progress in the last four hours? Hah!

Kicking ass Milt. I enjoy building trannies but I really get tired of the gear lube smell that hangs on you for a few days afterwards. Nothing like pulling apart a cooked tranny in the morning.

Sounds like a line from Apocalyps Now.

Aw, just pour in a little vanilla extract and run it before you take it apart. You'll think your working in a freakin' candy store! rolleyes.gif bs.gif

(I used to do this with house paint back in the days when it would sting your eyes when painting inside. Still stung your eyes, but it smelled good.) wacko.gif
