Will a later gear style window regulator fit in a 71 door with the cable type?

No, the inner door structure is different.

No. the inner door frame is different (where the inner handles and armrests bolt). I have seen a late frame welded in place of the early.

Yeah-
What they said.. the early regulators are fairly cheap...but someone around here is selling electric window conversions, not sure if you still need your window regulator or not.
Probably worth it on an early car if it's a keeper, I'll do that on my 70' next time the reg. fails.

I dont want electric windows. I dont even have inner door panels. I just happen to have a late model window regulator laying around. Thanks for the info guys.
