I am building a testing stand.
This thread: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...ic=81485&hl was the motivation.

mainly, I want to break in my motor, sync the carbs, etc out of the car. Then roll the test stand under the car and use it to install the motor.

Question 1: What would be the best way to mount a tach? I need one to keep the engine at 2500rpm during breakin.

piece of plywood with a hole in it for the stock tach.
It only needs one wire from the coil to do its job.

Build a console out of plywood.
Tach is a simple hole.
ignition is a 50 amp toggle switch (radio shack)
starter is a 50 amp single actuation push button switch (radio shack)
These can be 30 amps as long as all the wires are fat...
coil is on the motor
Power from battery to ignition switch, from there to coil/distributor and fuel pump.
one wire from coil to tach.

One the push button switch, one wire is from the switched side of the ignition toggle switch (safety...and get one with a cover)
the second wire goes to the starter relay spade terminal.

Power and ground go to the starter.
Power is the same pole on the starter as if it was in the car.
Ground is now the lower starter bolt.
These are REAL battery cables.

The push button, toggle, and wiring for those needs to be beefier than in the car.
When you have to crank alot, it will melt the wires and switches, so buy BIG stuff, high amps.

When getting the switches I got the marine grade switches. and starter button.
