Hi,
So what is the difference in the operation of the 039 ECU?
I have two and I am about to put a system together for a 2.0 liter.

The CHT (I think) can be fooled with resistors. If that is correct than I wont need to find the special CHT...

The MPS...I assume I can tune this to match the motor/elevation anyways.

So, is there a big issue using this ECU versus finding another one?

A matched set of components will be less headache to get the engine running right.

Hey Rich,

If you end up needing a 2.0l ECU I have one in my basement. Not sure of the condition but you are welcome to try it.

I got two, both end in 039.

Hi, you still driving that car???
If its on the road, we may be up at Erics in Haverhill this sunday replacing floorpans...come on up...you can even drive your DD honda...

what number is the ECU you have...what are the last three numbers.

You need to match the components with d-jet. You can't just mix and match MPS, TSII and ECU and expect it to run right. You're going to create more issues trying to "fool" and "tweak" your various components.

All components must be "matched" for the year and the engine. Anders lays it all out on his site...
Bleyseng
So they must be CU13X units for the 73 1.7's and you can use them. Do you have the proper 017 CHT?
r_towle
They are from 2 73 2.0 liter motors.
I probably have the CHT's from the motors...we shall see how reliable they are.

The MPS will be a punt.
I will try to find one, I know of a stash.
If not, I will send it to you..

This has been disproven.
With a resistor, you can use any CHT.

I am more interested in two things.

What is the difference? this is the car to have...is the ECU better or worse?
More or less power?

The MPS and CHT can be tuned in car with a wide band O2 Sensor, and I know just the guy to borrow it from.....Drew did this last year.

He actually put a POT inline with the CHT. He drove around and kept changing the POT until the OS sensor was reading what he was aiming for.
He then used a meter to read the POT, went to radioshack and purchased the correct resistor.
So, the CHT is really not to hard to figure out.

But again...is this the more power ECU, or more Ecomony one???

the early 1.7 ECU's had the fuel shut off but not the 73 ones soo for economy,no.

more hp? No....

Rich,

Still driving the car. Broke her out of hybernation yesterday for about an hour spin. Fired right up and ran great.

The ECU I have is form a 73 2.0L The number is 039 906 021

How did the floor pan party go?

there are two parts numbers on em, a VW/Porsche #039 906 021 and the Bosch # which ends in 037, 044 or 052. That is the number we generally refer to.

there is also the sticker number which is a CU13X or similar.

i'm doing a 2056 in my 1.7 73. from what i've learned and have put together for mine are:

052 ECU (75-76) decel fuel shut off feature helps emmisions a m.p.g. and not suposed to effect h.p.

recalibrated 043 MPS (or 049, 037 using a 043 cap for the extended adjustment)

all 2.0 d-jet components

So,
Is the "most desireable" 73 2.0 liter a myth?
Why is this car most desireable?

Early bumpers, got that.
What else....is it faster?

This question still relates to the FI topic...so I am still trying to decide if the hunt is on for a new ECU....

The early 73 2.0l "S" cars are lighter since they don't have the heavy door beams and some other metal. A few pounds here and there make a difference.
r_towle
Im gonna put all this in a 72, so I am already in that chassis.
