Can a TPS for a '73 2.0L be used in a 1.7L and vice versa? Are they the same unit?

they are quite different. I have a few 1.7 TPS and might trade for a good 2.0 version.

The TPS in question is with a throttle body with part #022 133.067. Can anyone say what engine it goes to?

That number does not come up in Bosch with any info. Bosch didn't make it; VW did.
1.7 TPS
0 280 120 021 = 022 906 111B
0 280 120 007 = same

2.0 TPS
0 280 120 032 = 039 906 111A
0 280 120 033 = same

1.8 TPS
0 280 120 201 = 022 906 111D
0 280 120 103 = 022 906 111E
0 280 120 104 = same as 103

The throttle body casting is not the same as the TPS number.

A '73 2.0L throttle body carries the VW part number of 039.133.067 (advance/retard vacuum pipes). 021 beginning numbers usually designate 1.7L parts and 022 designates 1.8L parts

Got it. Guess this #022 throttle body and attached TPS is likely from a 1.8L? What would be the consequence of using this TPS on a 1.7L?

If the connector has the same number of pins, prolly not many if any consequences. ***Disclaimer*** ... I do not know for sure if the internal wiring is different in the TPSs ...

I should also say that just because it has an 022 starting number doesn't necessarily mean that it is the wrong part. Those drunken germans weren't that precise. I have several plenums with throttle bodies attached ... if I get a chance today I will look at some 1.7/1.8/2.0 to see how the part number relates. I've seen some odd combos or at least I think they are odd.

0 280 120 021 = 022 906 111B

2.0 TPS
0 280 120 032 = 039 906 111A
0 280 120 033 = same

1.8 TPS
0 280 120 201 = 022 906 111D
0 280 120 103 = 022 906 111E
0 280 120 104 = same as 103

What about a TPS with part # 022 906 111A ?
I believe there is an early 1.7 TPS version with a 4 pin connection and a late 1.7 TPS version with a 5 pin connection.

the 1.8 TPS is more of a binary on/off switch for WOT.
It probably would not work.
Read about them in the Bosch FI book...
LJet needs less information than Djet with regards to the throttle position. Ljet is governed more by the AFM.

I suspect that with proper tuning that the 1.7 and the 2.0 liter TPS switches would work fine if swapped. The pinout needs to be the same.
the internal structure is a bit different, but it would still work,

Are you telling me that 022 906 111A is for a 1.8 liter engine?

What I'm really trying to find out is; what is the VW cross refrence # for this TPS - 0 280 120 007

Umm, why is this thread NOT on the originality forum?
