what is your budget? ( one that won't mean a reduction in food or getting your basic bills paid)
what 914's do you currentyl own?
i say - start off with a decent 1.7 914 - drive it for a year - then decide what your next step will be.

Smog compliant? All but the 76 model is exempt from inspection.
