I'm sorry to report that Dave Shepherd is still in the hospital, and the biz, GPR, is officially closed as of 31 May. Word is things are looking less-than-good for Dave. Young, nice, and a real Porsche guy. A tragedy. The Cap'n

Bummer, for sure. Dave hasn't been getting worse is the only good thing that I can say but it's not as good as getting better.
I'm heading off to buy some parts at Strasse. I said I wouldn't do that.

I still have one of my old "Your car is your catalog" GPR shirts. I ordered parts from him before there was GPR. Nice guy, stretched himself too thin.

Sorry to hear that, though, I can't say I ever knew or did business with him. But hopefully he'll get well. I've known people who seem to be on the edge, but somehow things work out and they get better. I hope the same happens for him.

is there anything we could do for him or his family?
I'd be happy to participate in something beneficial for him
does anyone know of an idea like that?

Dave had been going through alot of stressful things in the past years. I am sure this is end result of all of that. Im sure some of you know his stories.
He has got to be one of the best guys in the business. I dont know if some of you remember but he was the sole sponser for our WI/IL gathering we had a couple years back.
Get well Dave and stop hitting on my wife.

I've met Dave a few times, been to his shop a bunch more and always had a pleasant experience dealing with him.
I know that he has been going through a TON of issues over the last couple of years and has been dealing with a major back problem.
I hope he heals up and stays with the Porsche community.
I for one would really hate to see him close up shop.

this sounds cheesy, and if someone has a better idea i'm all ears...
but does anyone live close enough to what ever hospital this is, to deliver flowers?
I'll be happy to pitch in and send money towards that.
again if there is something better than flowers I'm all ears.
anybody want to volunteer to be the local delivery person, or if we could figure out the address I'm sure FTD will be happy to deliver.

Great thought, but in my recent experience, hospitals (at least around here) no longer allow flowers, or even live plants, especially in the ICU. Too many chances of arousing someone's allergies ...........

The Captain makes a good point (as usual)
if flowers aren't allowed these days, what would a good replacement be
I'm definitely sending something
is anyone else interested?
a 914 card is a good start, but we should put something with it..
or do the card now and flowers (?) later...

OK...this is why I didn't post what "I" knew...because none of this is confirmed.
Let's ALL take a breathe and hope he's OK....OK??????
We will post what is confirmed and not what we heard....ummm....K?
I consider Dave a good guy. He's the guy I went with when after i got dissed by AA and Patrick Motorsport. If he gets along with ME he has a thick skin.
Let's ALL say a prayer for him.

Well, I'll tell you what I DO know, 2 perforated ulcers, anemia, pneumonia, and a drug induced coma and he's still in the ICU. The only good news of the last week is that his blood pressure has improved. This is straight from 2 sources, a friend of ours who's in close contact with his dad and one of his employees have both told me the same thing.
They're not allowing any visitors except for immediate family. He won't be seeing any flowers as long as he's in a coma.
He does and will need cash. If you guys feel the need to contribute and there's a consensus that that's something that we should do, I'd be glad to set up a bank account for that purpose and accept payments to my personal paypal account to be deposited to that account or you could feasibly deposit directly into that account.
I would of course give the money to Dave in person when he improves and 914 World members would get all the credit.
In the event that Dave doesn't pull through, we could give the cash to his children or give it to help with funeral costs.
I have 4 people who have agreed to let me know when/if he begins accepting visitors and I will go there to visit ASAP.
I've known Dave for almost 20 years and I consider him a friend. We would talk about our personal lives as well as any business that we had to attend to. I know more about the problems that Dave has been enduring that I will share on any public forum, but he has been having a hard time for quite a while due to pain from a very damaged body from an old motorcycle accident.
I'll do whatever I can to help.

I'm sorry if this was posted elsewhere, but I've been out of town for over a week on vacation. I was informed that Dave passed away while in a coma on Sat June 28th. My heart felt condolences go out to his family and all others that knew him.

Wow this really sucks. I saw Dr Evils tribute to Dave and said WTF and went on a search and found this terrible thread.
I used to race with Dave in the early to mid 90's with the Cal Poly Sports Car Club. He even let me drive one of his cars when mine broke at the track (my very first 914 drive - it's all his fault!) He donated a nice big oil cooler for my truck to use as a transmission cooler so I could tow our clubs timing trailer out to the Santa Maria Airport without burning up my transmission. I remember that he used to really tear up the 1/4 or 3/8 mile dirt oval at Santa Maria speedway in the 4 banger class until they outlawed his car. He also got me parts at a discount - Ford and Fiat parts mind you, he went way out of his way to help out a poor college kid keep his car running.
I remember even way back then that he was burning the candle at both ends and was under a lot of stress and it did him good to get on Sunday and relax and run a few good laps. It's a little late to say condolences but what the heck. We will miss you Dave. Now I get to tell my sports car club buds that an old friend of the club is gone, I don't think anyone of them know.
