I honestly have never really looked at FI 914 motors...but is that a Turbo on the right?? heres the link...I feel like a doofus, but I am curious...

No, it's a blower motor hooked up to a heat toob.

heater blower
same concept (actually more like a compressor) but not enough pressure for turbo use.
so, people use it to blow air through their heat-exchangers to get warmz and fuzzy inside the 914.

doesn't really have anything to do with FI vs. Carbs.
you can still run a heater blower with carbs, provided you still have heat-exchangers ...
it's operated by the red little lever on the floor between the seats.
