New p/c for 73 1.7L All measure between .018 and .022 end gap.

All of my books, and you guys, say check the end gap, but none give me the tolerances.

My book says maximum gap is .022". The engine I just took apart was running fine and had .045"+ ring gaps.
Rings are cheap though. If your cylinders are in good shape, put a good cross hatch patern in them and install new rings.
