What is the best way to remove the seal in the speedometer drive without damaging the housing?

I've tried prying with a screwdriver and pulling with a hooked pick.

Even I can remove the O-ring, but the seal is being stuborn.

Thanks

I tried to get it out with a bent screwdriver, but that rubber was crusted in there. Finally I hit it with the propane torch until the rubber started to melt and it pulled right out in one piece.

there's at least two threads here on that same topic.

i used a hook and eventually got it out. there's a (aluminum?) ring that's pressed in that holds the seal.
i destroyed the old seal in the process, but once that "spacer" is out, the seal just fell out ...

Thanks Dan and Andy.

I better work on my search skills. My searches came up with lots of hits that were not close.

Thanks

I went through this myself. Seal wouldn't come out easily after aluminum washer was removed. I picked it out with a dental pick, it came out in pieces.
