I've heard all sorts of comments on the spring rates for a stock 6. Does anyone have the definative answer? And... anyone know of a source besides the local dealer? (not that I'm opposed to going that route if need be)

TIA

I think your only option is the aftermarket "Weltmeister" spring. Or maybe Eibach, but I have also heard rates varied from 60# to 100# I think for a stocker, your best bet would be the 100#.

Eric,

You will probably find that if you have your standard rear springs tested they will be way less than the stock 110 lb. Mine measured 69 so I threw them out. They were just gradually getting softer. I now use Eibach 140 lb in the rear with adjustable seats. They are quite comfortable on the road and make the car much better balanced.

This car has never been touched... Am I crazy for wanting a stock spring? Or... should I go up to a 140? Thoughts were to keep it bone stock.

The most authoritative source I've found so far (either Vol. IV or Vol. VII of "Up-Fixin Der Porsche") says that the stock springs varied from 60-90 lbs/in. I'd guess that the Six, with the heavier motor, would have been on the upper end of that range.

You're not sick for wanting to keep it stock.

You can get springs of just about any rate, diameter, and free length from your local suspension specialist. Might or might not be cheaper than the dealer.

Thanks Dave,

That falls in line with what I've heard (90-100lbs. for a six). I'll check my PET and see what the part number is and see if they're still available. If I recall, they're less that $2 bills new from Porsche...???

I am "considering" (considering) one mod. and that would be installing a "factory" 15mm bar up front. Jury is still out on this and if I were to do it then I may step up to 140's. With our flat little hoods you sure do notice the boat-like cornering without a bar.
