Does the post of your ball joint have a notch in it for the pin? It looks like you have an older style strut. The hole on the strut should be small on one end and big on the other like the pin.

Hi if there is a sloton the bottom of the strut, you have the old-style strut. That one uses just a screw.

Strut has a hole, the ball joint notch is more V shaped. Here's an older pic of a ball joint with a semi-circle notch vs V notch.

It's 911 Boge with 914 a-arm.

This tells me the V notch is correct with the pin I have, now to figure why it's not aligning...
chris914
To get mine to align I used a jack to lift the arm. To protect the arm place a piece of wood between the two. Be careful not to push up on the heat shield.

idea.gif You may be on to something, my first pic shows the V notch isn't in the center of the hole likely because the strut bottom corner is hitting the hanging a-arm. Will jack it up and install the pin again...

Use a round punch to align hole. It seems like the wedge pin will only go in from the rear if I remember correctly.

That did it, Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

One other problem I had was the hole was smaller than the dia of the pin because of the powdercoating. I had to file it with a rat tail file since I didn't have a drill slightly under 1/2" or a small honing tool. Ideally this should be done before mounting the strut... rolleyes.gif
