It's easy to pull the tranny. It only takes 30 minutes to get it out.

Yes, but do you just pull the motor too?? How do you support the motor.??

Unfortunately I have pulled the tranny so many times that I can pull the tranny out alone in less than 10min. It takes me about 45 -60 to pull the engine.

I put two jack stands under the engine mount bar. I support the engine with a jack. Support the tranny with a different jack. Undo the 4 bolts that connect the tranny to the engine (one connected to the starter). Undo the ground strap. Remove other bolt that is connects the starter. Loosen the rear tranny mounts. Pull the tranny back a inch or so. Lower the jack that is supporting the tranny. All done.

Definatetly just pull the tranny. Much easier to pull just the tranny. Just support the motor as said above. Unless you need to pull the motor I wouldn't!

I would NEVER support the engine or the car with jack stands under the mount bar. You're down on your knees BEGGING for disaster.

Yes, pull the tranny by itself. MUCH easier. One famous 914 specialist, known to most of us, has been seen doing clutch jobs without even removing the CV joints. He hangs the tranny by the axles and works around it.

Yep Porsche techs for years have been doing clutch jobs that way. Just unbolt the tranny and pull it back. Let it rotate down and hang. Suspend the engine either from the engine bay or with a stand under the flywheel end of the motor.

I've never done the whole not undoing the axle thing but it sounds like a dood idea if I'm just doing the clutch or something like that.... I may need to remember that.
