The Central Jersey VW Society is having its fourth annual "All Air Cooled Gathering" in Flanders NJ on Sunday September 21st. Since I'm helping run the show I thought it would be nice to have some air cooled representation from the 914 owners out there. Last year we had over 100 cars (mostly VW's with the exception of a few 914's and 911's) The venue is really unique in that its held at a private German Social Club with a beautiful full grass soccer field (actually several fields) along with German food and beer on tap. Yes, I did say beer is being served at the "club house" bar. This is a charity event where a portion of the proceeds will help Operation Jersey Cares, an organization that provides support and care for current and past NJ Combat Veterans. There will also be some parts vendors (mostly VW) and prizes being raffled to raise money along with a live band for entertainment.

Now before you get your Q-tips all fired up, I want to stress that this is real low key event with a very unstructured judging protocol (I'm the Porsche judge). There will be only one class for all model Porsches. We are going 3 deep with the awards which are a custom made metal European style license plate with the event logo embossed on them. Not your normal "bowling trophy".

If you're looking for a nice day out, German beer and food and help out with a good cause, make your way to Flanders.

Here is the Web Sight with directions and specifics:

This is a fun day and for a good cause. Had a great time two years ago. Doesn't look like I can do it this year, but recomend it for anyone looking for a fun relaxing day. Some nice Porsches showed up the year I went.

Bump for a great event, going to try to make it up there next weekend! Lets see some 914s out there, mine certainly won't be making the trek . . .

Most likely the '66 Sunroof Bug. That has the full tank of gas at the moment.

I would also like to add that I am not having my car judged (along with other CJVWS members who are working the show) to afford as many attendees the opportunity to win an award as possible.

All of us in the CJVWS want to make this show the premier East Coast VW/Air Cooled event. It is my personal mission to specifically invite our Air Cooled Porsche brothers (and sisters) due to the direct connection between Dr. Porsche and the creation of the Peoples Car. So all you 914, air cooled 911 and 356 owners, bring 'em out!

Here is a picture of the '66 Sunroof Bug I plan on taking. Humberto Lapa is at the steering wheel in this picture.

Okay, I just checked the weather forecast for the 100th time and we are clean and green, or should I say blue for the color of the sky, for Sunday the 21st. So, all you 14ers that refuse to drive in the rain, you have not excuse. The weather is going to be perfect.

The word must be getting out about how nice a show venue the Swim and Sports Club in Flanders is. I found out that the BMW Club is holding their Bimmerfest there on October 4th. Also, the Porsche Club is looking into holding the Zone One Concours there in 2009.

Here is the link to the show site which includes directions. Hope to see you there. And once again the weather will be perfect; sunny and close to 80 degrees.
