Wouldn't a TH400 FWD GM Toronado transmission hold up and be a whole heck of a lot less fabrication? Don't get me wrong, alot of ingenuity, but a lot of work!!!

Now there's your TTOD.

....Unless it had to turn....

Remember, the right tool for the job. And that particular tool is meant for the eighth-mile or quarter-mile, not for the tight confines of an autoX course.

I asked his about this - he said the gear ratios would not be correct.

his best run to date - is - 5.70 130mph 1/8 mile - while I think he has achieved his goal with version 3 - I doubt he will stop there - I am pretty sure he has THE NEED FOR SPEED biggrin.gif

There is a Sandrail Builder here that says he had 914 that ran 10's in the 1/4 and could pull the front wheels in second gear - - on a Type IV motor on Nitrous.

I have never seen the car and he said it was years ago. Is this even possible?

Sure.
I bet the motor did not last very long. But building a motor that can produce huge power for a very short duration is not impossible, and kinda common in drag world.

Kanasas914 & Zach,

Here is the sand rail (photo). The motor was built by my engine builder Primo Petrucci & to my knowledge the motor held up well.
BTW, Zach, Congratulations on the new family addition.

Jim Kelly,
What a great post, I love the wheel standing 914. What a car.
