Okay I was looking at a 911.5 the other day, and the number I thought was not the engine code. So I went backa nd got another Engine code.

This number was on a vertical fan support. The number is *6196765* Complete with the stars. Does that mean anything to anyone?

"911.5" ? you mean 911S ?

anyway - a 901/05 engine code would be a 2,0 66/67 Weber carb 9.0:1 130 HP @ 6100.
there is no 911/05, interestingly enough.

"*6196765*" is a serial number

Rich wouldn't a engine that early in the development phase be one that still used the internal code 901, before they entirely switched over to the 911 style?

I'll tell the guy that I think he has a the 2.0 with webers.

The 911.5 is a crack I started to make with the seller over its 912 chassis with a 911 motor in it.

Thank you very much. Now I don't have to get anymore emails from him.

i have no idea how early in the development cycle is, 'cause you didn't give me any clues as to the year of the engine...

if you didn't mean "911.5" to be an engine code, then i have no idea what you've got. you need the engine code - it'll be "911" or "901" / something... like 901/05.

i once knew where the engine code is located - but i've forgotten, and my usual references ... Anderson, Frere, Pelican Wayne ... don't seem to refer to its location either.

there's probably a way to get more out of the serial number - such as year of production - but i don't know any more decoder tricks - sorry ...

*6196765* is a 1969 911 T #6765. Which would be a 8.6:1, 110 HP /5800, 1991 CC, weber motor, if still original.
