I'v had my 75 914 for 26 years and still have the original POS Schucks headlights. There must be better headlights Available at a reasonable price.I'm sure the sales catologs have lights for sale , but thought I'd ask here what 914ers are using and are happy with. thanks for the input.

Sylvainia Silver Stars is my choice.

I replace my headlights with the Hella headlights with H4 bulbs. If you stick with the 65w high beam, you don't have to do any re-wiring. They are much brighter. I bought mine from Crutchfield.

I have some of the silverstars. They actually are pretty bright. Fairly cheap, and a direct replacement.

With all low cars visablity seems to be a problem,I know it has been for me anyway. I've tried just about every type headlight made with minimal improvement, UNTIL I installed a pair of 'European' spec Hellas.
The improvement was remarkable, excellant illumination on low beams,and incredable on highs.Although they're DOT approved only for motorcycles at this time, Your unlikely to have any problems as they don't blind oncoming traffic or produce excessive glare.

You need to order two bulbs and two conversion headlamps. They will plug right in.

I'm also looking for headlights. Do the Hella lights give off that slightly blue-ish glow? I think their UV or something?

The Hella replacements are standard 7" and a perfect fit. The light is bright white, not yellow like incandescent bulbs.

has blueish glow, the bulb fits into the back of the new glas bulb housing.

Think of it this way. The H4 is the housing, you put whatever bulb you want in the housing. Various wattage ratings and it also allows you to go with a bright white, blue tint, yellow tint, green tint, red tint, purple tint, checkerboard tint etc.

Yeah,the ones I;m talking about are a simple plug-in replacement. The secret may be that the Euro lenses produce a much sharper cutoff line so they don't blind oncoming drivers, allowing higher wattages. Also the beam flares up and to the right illuminating highway signs.

BTW. Looks like the first big storm of the year is here. Are You getting as much rain up your way as we're getting here in Portland(a shit load)?

I got mine from Rallylights.com and upgraded the wiring to accept 100w, they are REALLY bright. I got the yellowstars as well...

I'm also looking for some "isocandela" diagrams that Dan Stern used to have posted on his site. They are like topographical maps of light output for various lights (Hella, Cibie e-code, Cibie Z-beam, etc.). The diagrams really helped me make sense of his observations and recommendations.
