Should the shifter linkage cone screws at the coupler and the shift rod screw in flush or does it vary car to car? I just replaced all the linkage bushings and the new cone screws tighten up with about 1/8" still sticking out. I'm pretty sure the holes are aligned.

it goes in as far as the cone fits into the recess in the rod........ if that makes sense.... i don't think it's necessarily flush, just needs the cone to fit

When it's tight, it's in far enough. ALWAYS use new ones, or figure out a way to assure they don't back out. The Cap'n
