any help in this department? Need to tune this baby up and get her tight!
Good luck with that - the 914 is generally underappreciated in that part of the world (lived there 8 years...).
Join PCA if for no other reason than you'll be better plugged into the community - the Sierra Nevada Region was one of the best Regions I've been associated with. (If you find it unhelpful, let it lapse after a year, but the Great Basin is pretty isolated so the better you can get plugged into Zone 7 the better off you will be.)
You've got a couple of choices - there's SportHaus, and there's Bill Pearce (the dealer). I'd be astonished if anyone at the dealer had ever actually worked on an aircooled car, much less a 914.
SportHaus used to own a very rare '72 9146 and they were a very supportive sponsor of the 2002 West Coast Wramble. It's worth checking out. Or call the guys at EBS and see if they can point you.
That said - lots of Great Basin Porsche owners used to take their cars to Niello in Sacramento.
There isn't much on a 914 that cannot be done by a reasonably competent owner with a bit of patience and the right tools. This forum is a great resource for that. Search on 'tune up' and 'engine maintenance' and you'll find lots of tips.
