OK, I have stolen these photos from an old thread but this is the same thing I need to do on my 6.
My question is, can I (a limited experience welder) handle this weld and ream job or should I find a profesional to do it?

Weld it up and use a UNI-Bit to clean it up when you are done. It is not rocket science.
