Hi All -
I am in the throws of possibly getting another teener. The car has a newer 911 front end (with the underbody sway bar) and then it is using M front calipers on the rear with vented rotors - so no ebrake. Can I swap these out with a "GT" rear caliper (with the spacers) and get the factory ebrake back?
Thanks!!

Hi Scott, Hopefully Eric Shea will pipe in with the details but the short answer is "yes". I think he makes a "V" caliper which is basically a stock 914 rear with spacers for vented rotors. A GT caliper is different in that the pistons and pads are larger. If you can find a pair of Ferrari 308 calipers they can be made to work also and are the same size as the GT - I think...

I agree with John.
there are a few things you may have to tweek.. but the answer is still Yes
depending upon which vented rotors those are, you may need a small 1/8th spacer
I've done the space both ways myself on different rear vented cars
1) space the caliper at its mounting point to the "mounting ear"
2) space the whole rotor with a small 5 bolt spacer underneath the rotor
you could also (I've personally done it myself with home made parts) vent some stock -4 rear calipers and get your brake back that way.
but then you will have slightly smaller pistons than the GT or M has
with an adjustable bias I don't see that as a problem on a street car
(even a really awesome/fast street car)

Set of Ferrari 308 Rears, modified for 914/6 use (added bleeder)***, spacer added for vented rotors, completely rebuilt by Moroni Boy .... $1500.00
***Ferrari calipers mount opposite Porsche (hand brake lever).

Front calipers on the back would give you 42mm pistons in the rear
GT calipers (914/6) give you 38mm pistons.
Widened 914/4 calipers gives you 33 pistons and smaller pads.
Each step is pretty significant.

Why not run a 911 e-brake?
That opens up a whole realm of calipers you can run, including your M fronts on the rear.... or boxsters all around

Scott... did my email not go through. I sent you an email about a week ago.
I'm at NAMM. Are you here?
The front M-Caliper will not work. The nose of the caliper rubs on the rotor hub.
Rears (rear M-Calipers) will work but they need to be spaced by 5mm and you'll lose your handbrake.
Call me when you get a chance.

Hi Eric -
Nope - I didn't see it, and I sure didn't want to be a pest. So this car must have the M rear calipers on it. My goal is to get the ebrake back with out a pile of fabrication.
NAMM? I wish... new baby is a month old, other daughter just turned two - I am lucky to be "allowed" to get a rehearsal in once every two weeks! Tell Gene and the guys at the Pearl booth hi for me!
Thanks Eric -
Scott
