Full Version: Picked up a set of CH SB Aluminum heads today

I picked up a bare set of aluminum heads today, only have valve guides and seats installed. One of them is ported to the max, the other virgin. They have holes for regular valve covers and center bolt valve covers. They have seats for 2.02" and 1.60" valves. The burn chamber is heart shaped. There are no brands stamped anywhere. On the outside right under the valve cover lip they each have a sequence engraved: PC 3003-0712-0851 and PC 3003-0714-0858. Also on the raw part next to the machined intake ports side, one has the numbers 712 18S, the other 712 21.

I have a feeling they are Edelbrock heads but not sure. I could call Edelbrock on Monday and see if the PC sequences are some kind of serial numbers.

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Here are pictures. Notice the extra holes on the intake side and on the exhaust side (likely for plug wire organizers).

More pics. Notice the sequence engraved on the head, and the only stamped, or cast, number I can find.

Yep, looks to be the 3003 210cc runner at only $420.00 a pair, wow. I paid $200 for the pair I picked up, and one is ported to the hilt but needs clean up and one spot welded. I guess I can use that head to check for piston to head clearance when I got my 350 sb back that has some 12:1 domed Speed Pro pistons in it. I'm amazed a complete set, ready to go, is only $660.00, does anybody here have experince with these heads?

Did a little investigation at the keyboard, doesn't look like the heads to use if shooting for 500HP out of a 350.

If they are Pro Comp I know the guy that casts them and I know what they are modeled after - similar heads to my Canfields as well. Been so long since I looked at a set I can't say for certain they are PCs but those pix look very much like what I remember and much like my Canfields.

You can make 500HP on a 350 with those heads if they are ported correctly. Just be careful to check the valvetrain geometry on them when they are installed - you will have to get the right pushrod length.

Well, found out that by the time porting and matching of the two heads has taken place, and they have valves, springs, keepers, guides, etc., I'll have as much in them as a new set of AFR heads, so I'll go with the AFR heads. A local guy will take them off my hands for what I paid.

get the fully ported AFR heads if you are shooting for 500HP. The 210s with 295cfm at 0.600" lift will make 550HP no problem, depending on cam lift you might want to consider the 301cfm port job for .550" lift or less... I don't know the overall difference in price and IIRC last time I messed with these they only had the 295cfm head.

I have cleared 500HP with the 295 heads on crappy CA oxygenated pump gas with a solid tappet cam and hyd roller. If you go solid roller get the big'uns for sure to take advantage of the high lift flow. My Canfields flow 305 at 0.600" lift and if I added 12:1 compression to my engine instead of 10.6:1 I would be close to 600HP with the tappet cam (for reference) on a 4.125" bore. IIRC I have a 2.08" valve, maybe 2.10".

Oh yeah, be VERY careful looking at flow #s - I just noticed the larger flow head is flowed on a 4.125" bore, that will pick up a few cfm right there and why I am at 305cfm for instance. If you use a 4" bore 350 block I bet you would want to stay with the smaller head - they may have opened the chamber back on the big head to unshroud the valve, but then you need a 4.125" bore/gasket to use that. The 295 head is more than sufficient anyway.
