Perhaps not a Type 4 version of a "Raby Motor" :-)

Good point Jake - I actually have not doubt you could do it if you wanted to.

Only if I had an investor with 50 million bucks to support the project!

wub.gif the sound those engines make is freakin incredible. I can only dream of what it would be like to have something like that for a lap or 2.

I think its freakin' scary! My god whata lot of barely contained energy! One long explosion.

I'm guessing it gets pretty, um, tense when Jake has some monster spooled up to major decibel level.

BRB. I need to go clean myself.

Although I hate the F1 safety car, the counterpoint that the big Mercedes engine makes to the 19,000 RPM F1 engines is sublime. beerchug.gif

Around 8-9K things get scary...

Or when a 16:1 CR, 300HP N/A Pro Stock engine is screaming it is really intense!

Not only fast, but entertaining too. Although I like Queens version better, not bad for a car.

I would love to here one of Jakes big guns thundering in a deep low growl.

But until then, check out this nut!

Although I am sure that you have the torque written down somewhere, but to watch the video and see the camera jerk back with each gear change is priceless and makes up close and personal!

Jake Raby
That engine made 196 lb/ft of torque at the rear wheels... Just over 230 at the flywheel on my dyno.

I drove it like that for 13,000 miles, then I blew the main shaft in the tranny apart...
trev0006
These sound cool.

Neither.. Type NONE.
An engine producing that much power has ZERO VW/ Porsche parts in it's composition.

Two weeks in a row, two different cars laid down 501 and 507 RWHP on my chassis dyno, each being force fed with 30 PSI boost.

Here is a sample of what thats like on the dyno.

Cool, I was hoping it was a type one drag motor...
I am seeing more and more turbo type ones hitting over 300 and some are at 400 hp...interesting to see them run that much boost.

Those engines also don't have many "Type 1 parts" in their composition either.. I've never built a Turbo engine that didn't make 300HP, if you can't make that much with boost, may as well give up.

When an engine no longer uses a VW case or heads, its a Type NONE.
r_towle
Got ya....

I know its top secret....but can you share the displacement?
And just for a question about turbos..
what is the most HP you have seen/built/heard of using a hidden system under the hood and not in the back seat...beetle of course

Thats not top secret.. One engine is a 2332, the other is a 2387

The most I have made under the decklid was 230 RWHP, with ZERO mods to the body/ car- but that was 12 years ago from a little tiny 1776cc EFI boosted engine at 18 PSI boost... That engine and Turbo system is now for sale complete, I just freshened it up and gave it a better set of heads.. I bought the '57 Oval it was installed into from a good friend and have no use for the engine..

Here is one way to make 600+ flywheel HP.... Thos one made 510 RWHP last week at 28 PSI boost, no intercooler or water injection.

I have 4 Turbo engines in work here now, from 1493cc Land Speed race engines to a 3.2 Liter, roller cammed twin plug monster TIV that uses a STOCK TIV case and OE heads. Should be good for 650 on pump gas.

I am just not a fan of the large square box that hangs off the back of the latest generation of drag beetles..or the large open setup either.

What is the BEST that you think could be done in sleeper mode....I guess I will sacrifice the rear seat if needed....just want to retain the external appearance.

Rich
RJMII
I opened this thread half-way expecting to see an engine spraying green stuff all over the place. lol-2.gif

I think 300 would be pushing it, BUT most of the time you can't put that much to the ground anyway.

I have a really bad ass tranny to go with that Turbo engine from my Oval, it has drag gearing already.. Its so bad ass that it cost 5K to build 12 years ago!
