i think you need the engine number to be able to tell.

i dont think the engine # will help as it looks like it has a 1.7 #ea 061717, but it has fuch wheels, chrome bumpers, center console, im not sure if the 1.7 was put in later as i have no history on the car
SirAndy
Engine size and VIN are not related. No way of telling from the VIN ...

Maybe if you contact one of the previous/current owners ...

andy, is there no numbers designating the engine the car came with? (other than on the engine case itself)

people usually add the rims and console... chrome bumpers were for the appearance package.

you need the engine #

Get a C.O.A. They usually don't screw up the engine info.

Check for stickers in the engine bay. California cars, at least, had emissions stickers in the engine bay that listed engine displacement...

i know my 73 was origanally a 1.7 (orig. engine stored away). i put a 2056 w/ 2.0 d-jet in it. i always worry about good old ca. reintroducing smog checks on these and this would be a problem (although it has all the smog and probably runs cleaner than original!). i wonder if there are aftermarket 2.0 emmision labels???
