carpet year split is 70->71 and 72->76.
Im looking at a new carpet set for my early 72.

I don't have a "foot rest foamy-thing". does this mean I would go with the 70-71?
are there any other differences than that? confused24.gif

also, does anyone have a picture of an INSTALLED 914 aftermarket perlon carpet set?
all the pics I find by the vendors are just a pile of pieces.
has anyone here actually installed one?

#1->>Picard....
#2-Are you looking to go with the stock that was in your car from factory??
Is that the Needle Loom (perlon)....??
#3-No foot rest in the 72 as the model went to adjustable psngr seat....
#4-What is your color of carpet.....??
#5- the 75/76 model yrs carpets are different than previous.
(the loop and material used)...colors also.....
#6-Are you Trying to concour this car???
#7-Brett Johnsons-914 Guide to Authenticity book ...good start...Also....
#8-run thru the 'Nailed' interiors here.....
(IF a car had fogs on a 1.7 72 and Appearance Pkg etc...Chrome Bumps-
vinyl Targa Bar etc..It would have had the Loop Carpet..More than likely)
as Porsche would have had it loaded up as that was their model lean year..
I guess we will start there.. driving.gif

Actually chris the carpet is subdivided by material and also by year. The jan 72 and up production is one pattern and the 69-dec 71 is another pattern. All depends on the seat belts and the affixed seat. Fed standards change by year not model year so jan 72 production had retractable seat belts and shorter pass carpet.
Material for 70 was perlon (felt) for the sixes and non appearance group 914s. Perlon remained for the non appearance group cars through 73. 71 through early 74 models had the loop "hair" carpet (chocolate, carmel, and charcoal) and 74 1/2-76 had the purple twist loop carpet (for the charcoal for example) with 75 76 having available wheat buckskin and dark gray/purple twist)
Bottom line, if your 72 has the appearance group the correct carpet is charcoal "hair" loop and if produced in Jan 72 and up it has the shorter pass floor carpet and smaller bulkhead and center tunnel carpet

thanks guys for the great info.

the car does have the appearance package.
I don't consider my car concour "nice" but I consider it above average condition.

I like to be as correct as possible... but currenty the car has the classic "salt and
pepper loop carpet" kit in it now. It's in good shape but I know it's not correct.

I always thought I should have the felt... so Im glad I checked in with you guys.

george, the "loop" hair carpet is indeed different than the type of loop I have, right?

so I perused the AA catalog again...
and looked through the "nailed" interior thread again...

My interior is just like Pat's. with no footrest angle.
I know later cars had the foam footerest and the carpet [im think] were made to conform to this. or am I mistaken, again?

should I still get the post 72 version?
I just want to make sure before spending more then 3 bills on one. blink.gif

here is Pat's picture I borrowed:

hmmm. where is pat these days?

I knew this wasn't going to be easy.
I always seem to get the odd ball years with all my old cars. it's never cut and dry. headbang.gif

Here I am boys & girls!

Your refererence pic is indeed my 72, built in June of that year. Took delivery in late July. It is an appearance group car. The carpet, like all else (except paint) is original to the car.

Sorry George, but this time you are incorrect. As delivered.

thanks pat for chiming in.

as you can imagine, before spending 300+ smackers for a new carpet I want to make sure Im ordering the correct version.

so it appears Im safe to say I should be ordering the 70-71 carpet for my car to replicate the non-angled-footrest interior style.
