Full Version: Oil pressure Gauge weirdness ...

SirAndy
My 911 oil pressure gauge pegs out with just the key turned but no engine running.
Once i start the engine, the gauge just stays at full max.

I'm guessing faulty sending unit. Anything else i should look at?

When my temp gauge did that it was a bad ground.

I too would say a ground somewhere..........or bad sending unit.........
I had a low pressure problem once and it turned out to be a little thread tape had worked its way down and was blocking the gauge where the oil goes in the gauge....not related but a low pressure problem.....cleaned it out and no problems after that.............

i don't know if 911 gauges read higher with less resistance to ground like most others do, i would think so. a good sender test is to jump the gauge wire to ground, it should peg. to confirm the sender by reading resistance to ground, no continuity until the engine is running w/ oil pressure,.

The circuit is open. Test the wire from the sender. Might wanna also confirm it's plugged in at both ends. The Cap'n

Finally got around to look at this today.

Gauge is OK. Wire from gauge to sender is OK. Wire is attached to sender.

It's a stock 993 dual sender. The idiot light works as expected, the pressure part does not.
Could i have fried this when my engine harness burnt up?

Guess it's time for a new sending unit.

Andy, I have a 360 023D, 10x1, 150psi (which translates to 928 606 203 01) VDO sender here you can have. The bird says it's for:

911 Carrera 2/4 (1989-98), 911 Turbo (1991-98), Each 1
This part may also fit in the following categories:
993 / Turbo (1995-1998) 1
993 / Turbo (1995-1998) (M64.60) 1
964 C2/C4/Turbo (1989-1994) 1
924S (1987-1988)

If you ground the lead, the gauge should read 0. Open and it goes full max.
