Cross posting this ? to get the most responses.

The silver end cap (top right corner of pic) on my fuel pump check valve has corroded to the point that it will not stay attached to the pump body, so the valve spring is not doing anything. Can the pump be operated safely/reliably without the check valve and cap??

Anybody have an old pump end cap or an idea of how to fix this?

Car is a 74 2.0 with stock d-jet.

JB Weld around the outside

or

A new/used head (pump head)

If there is no spring pressure, one could surmise that all the flow is being directed back to the tank (open return port).

You could posssibly just plug the port and use the pump as a "one in, one out" just like the later styles.

But then, I am not the engineer that designed it.

The idea of getting just a good top section from an old pump is a good one. Thanks. Now anybody have one they want to part with?

hmm. I seem to remember that when you pull that cap off springs go flying all over the place. I'm willing to bet there has been some bodging of the pump to stop the 'stuck in bypass' problem.
