I know it's only a day after WCR 2009, but now that I have a running and driving 914, I'm already getting ready for WCR 2010.
Being that next year is the 40 anniversary of the 914, my suggestion would be to do it up big and in Las Vegas. Plenty of rooms and lots of different options for activities.
I know its a long drive for the PNW guys (its long even from Sacramento), but being that its Vegas, I'm thinking it will be worth it.
Any other ideas being thrown around? I'd be happy to help plan or help out in any way!

Lake Tahoe
The drive around the lake takes all day and is quite beautiful and curvy.
The hotels are plentiful and range from ridiculous to reasonable.
The hotels have shows.
I know of one hotel that has allowed a car show and autocross on its lots.
We could even get a fishing excursion going.
We could do the tour of the lake on a sightseeing boat.
Some guys have never seen Lake Tahoe.

don't call it a auto cross, they might think it some kind of racing and want insurance and all that stuff...we could call it a drivers agility course!

Jamie and I were talking about Medford all the way back home. About as central as you can get on the left coast, and we could do a redwood run and a crater lake run. Biggest problem would be lack of local logistical support.
No track, but maybe a "drivers agility training"

I'll throw out a vote for Tahoe. You could add Hwy 49 from Nevada City through Downieville the back way to Truckee.....an absolutley sweet drive along the river (bends). You could do that and a trip around the lake in one day if you want a long driving day or split it up. Great roads, scenery, weather & activities all the way around.

I like the Medford idea. I know I could get an area for autoX in Medford. I also can get a place for trailers to sit while we are out of town on drives. Here is a general idea.
1st- Friday night meet & greet
2nd- Saturday drive to redwoods on 101 then north to CoosBay where we would stay the night. I thought Yerts on the beach with a BBQ would be killer. In town hotel for those that wouldn't like the Yerts
3rd- Sunday morning drive thru Reedsport (breakfast stop) Then head back towards the 5 with a great photo op on that hwy at the wild life preserve. There are always Elk there right next to the road & plenty of parking. From there onto Crater Lake. Back to the hotel in Medford
4th- Monday AutoX in Medford .help needed wih the course & someone to General the whole AutoX.
Anyway that was the basics of it. Things would change as needed but the drives are kick ass. I would be willing to plan it along with some fellow Oregonians (Todd & anyone else who wants to help).
I'm not opposed to somewhere else just thought this was very centralized. I think the turnout could rival any previous WCR because of it. Still I'm good if it is somewhere else & I don't have to plan it. I like the idea of it being in the coastal states. If we move inland it's cool too.
Well fire away with your thought guys

Click to view attachmentI live in Ashland (10 miles south of Medford) and could help (not be in charge!). Drive to Redwoods is 2 1/2 to 3 hours but the road through the Smith River Canyon (CA 199) is made for 914's. There are big trees near Crescent City but it is another hour to the main groves. A redwood trip would be a full day.
Crater Lake would be another great run but also take a day. The Lake just opened last week with lots of snow still there so this is a better trip mid-summer or fall.
The Jackson County Sports Park is a fantastic AX venue (Kart track) used by the local SCCA group. I suspect we could reserve it on a weekday and maybe even on a weekend depending on the time of year. More likely booked on summer weekends.

Least likely to be booked & much cheaper during the week. I thought the redwood & Crater lake might be a bit much. We could still do the redwoods run & stay in Coos bay. First of all I think Tahoe and Medford are great venues. The only other one I can think of that may be better is...................
MONTEREY!
Cool weather, great drives, Golf, plenty of tourist stuff for families like the Aqaurium, Cannery Row, 17 mile drive, wine tasting in the Carmel Valley. etc. and of course.............................LAGUNA SECA and Marina airport AutoX venue!!!!!!!!! About 400 miles closer than Irvine for the PNW folks. 350 miles from SoCal, 900 miles from Seattle, 90 miles from most points in the SF Bay area, 900 miles from Utah, Several Airports within 2 hours for those not bringing a 914, Large 914 support contingent.
I'm willing to take lead on Monterey. Is someone going to organize Tahoe if that is the consensus?
With that being said, I am sure Jamie and Todd could put on a great WCR in Medford. Let the people decide!

Laguna Seca is probably impossible. It is actually a city or county park now and they only allow racing a few times a year to keep the noise and traffic down for the locals who live across from the entrance. Unless you cuddle up to an organization like Trackmasters or NASA... Get your group their own run group etc...

Another option is Paso Robles, just north of SLO on the central California coast. Great wine, great Porsche roads, (peachy canyon) an airport that might allow an auto cross, (I can look into that). Streets of Willow is close and Button Willow is even closer. The local chapter of the Porsche club has a DE event at Button every year although everyone had a great time at Streets this year. German Parts and Restoration is close by with a TON of 914 parts.
Where ever we decide, I'll definately be there. I've been to every one since 2004 and it's always a great time.
Cheers, Elliot

Paso would probably be a good area. I know slo has alot of cops (drinking in the parking lot would not fly in slo)
But still close enough. Buttonwillow is nearby, we can also take the route that Targa California did going to fort hunter liggut to the 1 up to monterey, then take the backroad to greenfield. It was a fun scenic drive

Depends... if we let the city know about the event and have all the permits ready... I would be happy to look into that BTW... then it shouldn't be a problem. SLO has little gatherings that quaffe wine and eat stinky cheese all the time and they love to promote this place as a destination spot for groups like ours. In fact many of you may already know this but the 356 alternates each year SLO and Cambria. I believe they have wine, beer and all the usual party stuff.
Paso is great too but there is the possibility of it being hot. The paso Wine fest was this last weekend as well and it got up to 105 in some spots.
