pedal up and lots of pedal pressure but...

engine revs and nothing happens like its not in gear.

I know its in gear because I can feel the gears with the shifter.

the car responds like the clutch is pressed in all the time.

The pedal is stiff as hell and the cable is tight.

The bearing arm moves. But when I let the clutch out with the motor off and the car in gear, the car rolls .

what could that be?

When was the last time your replaced the plastic ballcup in the release bearing arm?
dflesburg
release bearing arm has tension

Check your CV joints, one may have let go. The driver side outer let go on mine and it felt exactly that way. When I took it apart I expected to find a pile of metal pieces, but everything was intact, including the cage. Somehow the cage had spun and allowed the axle to spin. The inner race had a nasty scar on one edge.

lots of things, the marcel could have broken. thats the center hub of the clutch. the input shaft of the tranny could have broke. the pinon shaft could be a goner.

update:

pass side axle turns backward in reverse, forward in forward gears.

so you know, this is a 914-6 conversion with 914-s stub axles...

more help please...

I'm fairly new to all this but I just swapped out my clutch and transmission and went through those systems. It almost sounds like you have the clutch cable to tight and the release bearing is doing it's job even when you have the clutch pedal up. Assuming a six is like a four with the 901 trans in place you need about a 1/2 to 3/4 free play at the clutch pedal (grab the pedal and pull towards the driver seat). Unless it is something bigger that requires dropping the trans. Might as well losen the clutch cable first and see if that helps.

then why would the axle turn but not the wheel.

thats broken!

does the stub turn too?
Cap'n Krusty
Because you have a busted CV joint, or the bolts that hold it tight to the stub axle ..........................

You did not mention that the wheel did not turn......just how the axle turned. You have just answered your question....CV.
dflesburg
how about if all my bolts came loose holding my outer cv assembly...

locktight!
Dr Evil
blink.gif Your axle should NEVER move without the wheels moving.

BTDT, left the Tee Shirt and walked home nekkid.....live and learn. CVs are designed to be the weak link. Cheaper than trannies or clutches....

I lost my half shaft doing 70 on 280! It sounded like popcorn though...
